Nico and Jordan

New Iowa secondary coach Darrell Wilson finds himself working with a pair of sophomores he recruited from Maryland high schools.
Nico Law currently tops the Hawkeye depth chart at strong safety while Jordan Lomax is listed as a back-up to junior B.J. Lowery at cornerback.
Lomax and Law both saw time on special teams last fall as freshmen and have positioned themselves to compete for playing time in the Hawkeyes’ defensive backfield this spring.
Wilson likes what he has seen from both.
“Working for the first time with those two they are really, really talented,” Wilson said. “Jordan, it’s more confidence right now, but he has the ability and Nico is not lacking confidence. We just have to let Nico know that you don’t know everything just yet.
“He’s a football player. He wants to learn. He’s gung ho. We have to turn him down a little, which is OK. You would rather have to turn a guy down than turn him up.”
Wilson said both are making good progress as they compete for open starting positions.
Iowa returns starters at the other two secondary positions, cornerback Micah Hyde and free safety Tanner Miller.
“Jordan and Nico are both really coming along. They will come up and see me because they want to learn. They will come and watch film and they will ask questions, so I am excited about those two,” Wilson said.
